Scripture and Prayer on Monday, May 18, 2020
Pastor David reads Colossians 1:8-14 and offers a prayer from Thomas Fuller:
Lord, teach me the art of patience while I am well, and enable me to use of it when I am sick. In that day either lighten my burden or strengthen my back. Make me, who so often in my health have discovered my weakness in presuming on my own strength, to be strong in my sickness when I solely rely on your assistance.

Scripture and Prayer on Friday, May 15, 2020
Pastor David reads Matthew 7:1-12 and offers a prayer from B.F. Westcott:
Lord, you have taught us that all who come our way are our neighbors. But hear our prayer for those with whom we come in daily contact because they live close to us. Help us to be good neighbors to them. Give us the grace to ignore petty annoyances and to build on all that is positive in our relationship, that we may love them as we love ourselves, with genuine patience and kindness.

Pastor David reads Matthew 6:19-24 and offers a prayer from Augustine:
Almighty God, in whom we live and move and have our being, you have made us for yourself and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in you. Grant us purity of heart and strength of purpose, that no selfish passion may hinder us from knowing your will, no weakness from doing it; but that in your light we may see light clearly, and in your service we may find our perfect freedom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Scripture and Prayer on May 12, 2020
Pastor David reads Matthew 6:7-15, which contains the Lord’s Prayer, and offers a prayer by Miles Coverdale that expands on the prayer Jesus taught us:
O Lord God, our Father in heaven, we your unworthy children on earth pray that you will look on us in your mercy, and give us your grace; that your holy name may be sanctified among us and in all the world, through the pure and sincere teaching of the Word, and through earnest charity in our daily living and our conversation. Root out from us all false teaching and evil living, so that your name is not slandered.
Let your kingdom come, and be great. May all sinful, blind people who are in the devil’s grip be brought to the knowledge of the true faith in Jesus Christ your Son.
Strengthen us, Lord, with your Spirit, to do and to suffer your will both in life and death, so that our will may always be broken, offered and put to death.
And give us our daily bread. Preserve us from covetous desire so that we may be assured of having the abundance of all good things.
Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who offend us, that our heart may have a sure and glad conscience, and that we may never fear, or be afraid of any sin.
Lead us not into temptation, but help us through your Spirit to subdue the flesh, to despise the world with its vanities, and to overcome the devil with all his cunning attacks.
And finally, deliver us from all evil, physical and spiritual, temporal and eternal.Posted by Mt. Haley Church of God on Tuesday, May 12, 2020

Scripture and Prayer on Thursday, May 7, 2020
Pastor David reads Matthew 5:21-26 and offers a prayer from Thomas a Kempis:
I offer up to you my prayers and intercessions, for those especially who have in any way hurt, grieved, or found fault with me, or who have done me any harm or displeasure.
For all those also whom, at any time, I have annoyed, troubled, burdened, and scandalized, by words or deeds, knowingly or in ignorance: that you would grant us all equally pardon for our sins, and for our offences against each other.
Take away from our hearts, O Lord, all suspiciousness, indignation, anger, and contention, and whatever may harm charity, and lessen brotherly love. Have mercy, O Lord, have mercy on those who crave for your mercy, give grace to those who stand in need of your grace, and make us such that we may be worthy to receive your grace, and go forward to life eternal.Posted by Mt. Scripture and Prayer on Wednesday, May 6, 2020
Pastor David reads Matthew 5:16-20 and offers a prayer from Francis of Assisi:
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is depair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that we may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
not so much to be understood as to understand,
not so much to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.Posted by Mt. Haley Church of God on Wednesday, May 6, 2020
