Worship Service on Sunday, August 9, 2020

Join us for worship today! Our sermon text is Genesis 37:1-4 and 12-28, the beginning of the story of Joseph and his brothers. Where is God in the midst of our brokenness? What is the good news of Genesis? How does this connect to Jesus? Listen in as we explore this together.

Scripture and Prayer on Friday, August 7, 2020

Pastor David reads John 1:43-51 and offers a prayer from Anselm:

Jesus, as a mother you gather your people to you;
You are gentle with us as a mother with her children.
Often you weep over our sins and our pride;
Tenderly you draw us from hatred and judgment.
You comfort us in sorrow and bind up our wounds;
In sickness you nurse us,
And with pure milk you feed us.
Jesus, by your dying we are born to new life;
By your anguish and labor we come forth in joy.
Despair turns to hope through your sweet goodness;
Through your gentleness we find comfort in fear.
Your warmth gives life to the dead;
Your touch makes sinners righteous.
Lord Jesus, in your mercy heal us;
In your love and tenderness, remake us.
In your compassion, bring grace and forgiveness;
For the beauty of heaven may your love prepare us.

Scripture and Prayer on Thursday, August 6, 2020

Pastor David reads John 1:29-42 and offers a prayer from Dimitri of Rostov:

Come, our Light, and illumine our darkness.
Come, our Life, and raise us from death.
Come, our Physician, and heal our wounds.
Come, Flame of divine Love, and burn up our sins.
Come, our King, sit upon the throne of our hearts and reign there.
For you alone are my King and my Lord.

Scripture and Prayer on Tuesday, August 4, 2020

Pastor David reads John 1:1-18 and offers a prayer from Joseph Hart:

How good is the God we adore,
Our faithful, unchangeable Friend!
His love is as great as his power,
And knows neither measure nor end!
‘Tis Jesus, the First and the Last,
Whose Spirit shall guide us safe home:
We’ll praise him for all that is past,
We’ll trust him for all that’s to come.

Worship Service on Sunday, August 2, 2020

This week’s service focuses on the theme of “struggle.” Pastor David’s sermon comes from Genesis 32:22-32, where Jacob wrestles with God.

Unfortunately, our service was not able to be streamed live due to a bandwidth problem with our internet provider. (Just one more struggle, right?)

Scripture and Prayer on Monday, July 27, 2020

Pastor David reads Matthew 27:24-31 and offers a prayer from Treasury of Devotion:

O innocent Jesus, who with wonderful submission was for our sakes condemned to die: Grant that we may bear in mind that our sins were the false witnesses; our blasphemies, backbitings, and evil speakings were the cause of your accepting with gladness the sentence of the impious judge. O may this thought touch our hearts and make us hate those sins which cause your death.

Scripture and Prayer on Friday, July 24, 2020

Pastor David reads Joshua 9:22-10:15 and offers a prayer from the hymn writer Isaac Watts:

O God, our Help in ages past,
Our Hope for years to come,
Our Shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal Home!

Beneath the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defense is sure.

Before the hills in order stood,
Or Earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.

Thy Word commands our flesh to dust:
“Return, ye sons of men!”
All nations rose from earth at first
And turn to earth again.

A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.

The busy tribes of flesh and blood,
With all their cares and fears,
Are carried downward by the flood,
And lost in following years.

Time, like an ever rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten as a dream
Dies at the opening day.

Like flowery fields the nations stand,
Pleased with the morning light;
The flowers beneath the mower’s hand
Lie withering ere ’tis night.

O God our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our eternal Home.

Scripture and Prayer on Thursday, July 23, 2020

Pastor David reads Joshua 9:3-21 and offers a prayer from the Alternative Service Book:

Almighty Father, whose will is to restore all things in your beloved Son, the king of all: govern the hearts and minds of those in authority, and bring the families fo the nations, divided and torn apart by the ravages of sin, to be subject to his just and gentle rule; who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
