Preview: Revealed to the World

Today (Thursday, 1/6) is Epiphany, the day on which Christians around the world celebrate the visit of the Magi to see Jesus, the newborn Savior.  This coming Sunday, we will study Matthew 2:1-12, the story of that ancient visit, as we begin a new series of sermons on “The Mission of Christ.”  What is the significance of Jesus being revealed to foreign dignitaries in this way?  Come worship with us on Sunday as we discover this together!

So, today I’d like to let you in on a little secret:  I’m losing my hair.  That probably comes as no surprise to you, especially if you’ve seen me in person lately.  And it’s no surprise to me – my barber told me about my thinning hair when I was sixteen years old.  But it’s on my mind again this week.  I call my receding hairline “The Retreat of the Soldiers.”

The Savior is Born

Merry Christmas!  While I am writing these words, stockings are being hung by our chimneys with care, and children are doing everything possible to move from the “naughty” list to the “nice” list.  As always, though, there is a deep, abiding reason for this season that goes beyond gift-giving and family get-togethers.  Christ, the Savior, is born!

First Snow

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!  Tara and I come from Indiana, where we often were left merely dreaming of a white Christmas.  More common was the muddy or occasionally green(!) Christmas.  But with last weekend’s snowfall firmly in place, we seem to be set on the most traditional of courses this season.  Why does the weather seem to affect our experience of this Christmas season?
